The Story of the Ring

For 21 years, since he started blowing glass in 1980, Sol dreamt of having his own glass blowing studio. That dream became a reality in 2001 when he and his wife Gwen found "Klee Wyck", an old estate on the west bank of the Capilano River, in West Vancouver, B.C.

It was originally owned by Dr. Ethlyn Trapp, who was a personal friend of Emily Carr, the world renowned artist and writer. "Klee Wyck" is Emily Carr's Indian name, given to her by the Nuu-Chah-Nulth people. It means "laughing one".

Dr. Trapp asked Emily's permission to name the estate after her, and Emily was honoured to give it. The old garage at the back of the property is where Sol and Gwen found themselves in February 2001.

They spent the next nine months cleaning, renovating and building equipment for their unique glass blowing studio. The studio setting reflects the beauty and uniqueness of Sol's work and attracts visitors from around the globe.
